Safaricom to launch Kenya’s first 5G mobile network on Friday the 26th March 2021
Safaricom will launch Kenya’s first 5G network this Friday the 26th March 2021 which is expected to be up to 20 times faster than their current 4G network.
The initial rollout will only cover Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii and Bungoma initially which I find fascinating since I would have expected Mombasa and Nakuru to get it at launch too.
The biggest issue for its uptake will be affordable 5G smartphones and adequate coverage for users where it’s needed most.
Once again, Safaricom is first out of the blocks with mobile data speeds, just as was the case with 3G in 2008 and 4G in 2015. The more things change, the more Safaricom stays the same in the context of leading the mobile network market in Kenya!
